Got it, I think.
So, basically, to avoid those ridiculous translates in Inkscape:
- If you want to change the page's size, delete all your layers.
- If you want to move a group, move it, un-group, then regroup.
- If you want to move a group which has clones: delete all clones, see
step 2, re-create & re-position all clones.
- Check the SVG file regularly anyway, just in case.
That is *somewhat* annoying.
